Hello
My name is Luis, I am 34 years old and I write from Valladolid, Spain. This city is 200 kms noth from Madrid.
Excuse me, I can read in French, but I can not write. I hope you can understand me.
I love a Mk1 for a long time. My history is a little bit long and start too much time ago. When I was 6 years old, my father bought a 1983 GTI MK1 1800 and from that moment I felt in love of this car. At the same time a friend of my father bought a new antracite GTI 16S from the french market (it was very difficult in those years) and I promised myself I would have a 16S in the far future.
After several cars in my life, in 2004, I got my fist GTI 16s with 210.000kms. It was white and I bought it in Bourdeaux. The car was in very good condition but the engine a little bit tired. I repaired the engine and I drove the car 10.000Kms in 3 years. I loved this car but I felt I wanted a original 16s in antracite, the same colour that my fathers friend had in 1983. For this reason I put on sale the car in 2007 and several days after, the car was sold in Andorra. I cried when the new owner picked the car at home.

Sold my fist white Oettinger, I start to look for an original antracite 16S. I find it several months later in Rennes, in febrery 2008, my new antracite 16s. The car was nice, but the interior and engine must be refait. The paint looked well.
As soon the car arrived at home, I rebuilt all interior: New original red/black trim, new floormats, new door pannels and new dashboard. Finished the interior in the end of 2008, I started with the engine in 2009 because it was fatigue and the culasse was broken. After six months waiting to find a new culasse I put the car on the road again. Thanks to Gil (Vagsport in this forum) I could to repair my car (he sold me a new culasse in poerfect condition) and thank to him I am again the happy owner and driver of this car. Here some pics of the car with the new interior and with the engine and gearbox rebuilt.

And in 2011, I started to repair the body. Yes, as you can see above, it looked very nice, but I wanted a full respay (out and inside) to get a 100% perfect finish and take out a little bit of rost under front wings.
My car with the body restored will be ready on the road next week and I will post new photos. For the moment, some pics of the restauration. In the restauration of the body I changed my Bilstein and Eibach for a KW suspenssion....and Supersprint exhaust to improve the sound!!!!

I promise myself I will never sell the car as I did with the white one. I think the oett is one of the best car in the world because is nice, fast, special and funny. I have had a lot sportscars (bmw z3m, wiesmann, porsche....) but the Oett occupe a big part of my heart

I thought your car was 57000 kms!!!! . Right, it has 156000 but it looks like a new car.
I agree. I have more special car than the oettinger, but for me, the Oettinger is very special and funny

Volant is at home. This momo is smaller to drive than the original. The original is like new.
Mano oettinger are at home too but they were a little bit old and I fitted a new ones VDO

Hola qué tal Luis Cuando pasas al lado de Perpignán serás bienvenido a casa. Tu historia y tu amor para este coche es muy fuertes. ¡Allí te tiene que habrá cambiado exactamente el color del coche, tu has cambiado de coche para tener el de tus sueños bravo!
Bonjour Luis et si tu passes à côté de Perpignan tu seras le bienvenu à la maison. Ton histoire et ton amour pour cette voiture est très forte .Il y en a qui aurai changé juste la couleur de la voiture, toi tu as changer de voiture pour avoir celle de tes rêves, bravo !

Yes!!!...but now my car is very very different. As you know, the paint was ok more or lees, but not the interior, breaks, engine..... Did you see this car in Rennes? Why didnt you buy it to restored? I have spend to much money but now I have a perfect car
Now, my car is 100% different: new full paint(interior and exterior), complete new interior (including dashboard and door panels), engine and gearbox rebuilt, all new parts around the engine etc......

Yes, I sold my perfect white oettinger for another in black. I didnt want to change the colour to the white because we must leave them in original condition, as they left the factory 30 years ago. The white cars must be white always and the black one, must be black always too. For this reason, I sold the white one and I looked for the black one. This is only my opinion!!!!!!11

.....now I only have to think if I have to fit the original volant and radio from VW that I have at home. My sport volant is smaller and confortable than the original and with my radio I can hear my cds.....

I didnt buy this car because of ten negatives analisys,
the brakes during the road test, the engine instability.... and other details

pour ma part, c'est une très longue histoire !
je n'ai pas acheté cette voiture en raisons de dix points d'analyse négatifs,
les freins durant l'essai routier, le moteur.... et d'autres détails

I understand you. I agree, the car had several problems (brakes, engine, interior...) but I live far and was difficult for me to find a Oett in antracite. Finally, I negocited the price with the last owner and bought the car. I knew that would spend a lot money in the car to get a perfect condition, but now, I am happy because it shine at the first day that left the factory in 1982.
I would like you could see the car at the moment to compare: new full paint exterior and interior, new interior (new dasboard, doorpanels, floormats....), new engine, rebuilt gearbox, a lot parts arouns the engine, KW suspenssion...... Beleive me, more than 18000/19000 euros spendt in the car between the car, tranport to Spain, paint, all new parts, works etc.... Only the original new dasboard 650 euro, only the KW suspenssion 1200 euro..... Yes, is unbelive, but my love for this car is stronger.
For this reason when I read some French Magazines speaking about the price in the market of these cars, I smile because the prices never are real for several reasons:
1. Is difficult to find these cars on sale in the market for two reasons: Only around 1200 were and I am sure a lot are die. As well, in these years not a lot owners sell their cars because they love them. I think for these reasons the owner that sell his Oett can choose the price dpending of the condition of the car.
2. Another cars that are on the road and are tuning or not complete with original parts from Oettinger like engine, badges, volant, gauges......
3. More difficult is to find 100% complete cars with all Oettinger parts (volants, badges, lights....) ......and if you are lucky and you find it, always spend something of your money to get the best condition. For these reasons, I smile when I read the magazines because is impossible to find a Oett in top top top condition around 8000/11000 euros. If you have a perfect car, you always have to spend money in it if you want the best

En fait le mieux c'est de prendre le texte et de le passer dans google traduction / google translate . C'est pas parfait mais au moins on comprends. Avec l'anglais çà marche pas mal L'espagnol je sais pas.
